Prof. Dr. Ali Demirci - Dr. Ali Demirci received his Ph.D. degree in Food Science and Technology with a minor in Chemical Engineering from Iowa State University in 1992. He worked as Assistant Professor in Department of Food Engineering at University of Gaziantep, Turkey, between 1993 and 1994. After working as a Research Associate at Iowa State University, he then joined The Pennsylvania State University in 1999 as an Assistant Professor in the Agricultural & Biological Engineering Department. He was later promoted to Associate Professor in 2005 and Full Professor in 2009.  He is currently serving as the chair of Intercollege Master of Professional Studies in Renewable Energy and Sustainability Systems (iMPS-RESS) and Professor-in-Charge for the Shared Fermentation Facility. His teaching and research focus on Microbiological Engineering, which has two directions: i) Bioprocessing/ fermentation processes for productions of value-added products such as biofuels, organic acids, enzymes, antibiotics; ii) Inactivation/control of pathogenic microorganisms in foods and environment by novel non-thermal processing methods. He holds two U.S. patents and has authored or co-authored over 120 refereed journal articles, numerous conference papers, and 20 book chapters, edited two books, and made numerous presentations at regional, national, and international conferences. He served on editorial boards of Journal of Food Protection and Journal of Food Biotechnology. Also, he has been associate editor for Transactions of ASABE (American Society of Agricultural and Biological Engineers) since 2008.


Prof. Dr. Mehmet Inan - Dr. Mehmet İNAN received his Ph.D. degree in Food Science and Technology from University of Nebraska-Lincoln in 2000. He worked as Post-Doctoral Research Associate at Biological Process Development Facility at University of Nebraska-Lincoln, USA between 2000 and 2002. He worked as Research Assistant Professor in the Chemical & Biomolecular Engineering Department from 2002 to 2008. He also served as Manager of Molecular Biology Laboratory (MBL) at Biological Process Development Facility from 2000-2008. He worked at Alder Biopharmaceuticals Inc. (Bothel, WA) as Senior Research Scientist between 2008-2010. He then joined Food Engineering Department at Akdeniz University in 2010 as Associate Professor. He was promoted to Professor in 2013. He has been appointed as Director of Akdeniz University, Food Safety and Agricultural Research Center in 2013. His teaching and research focus on Molecular Biology of Yeast and recombinant protein production in microbial systems. He holds U.S. patents and has authored or co-authored many journal papers, conference papers, and book chapters, international conferences. He serves on editorial boards of Protein Expression and Purification journal.


Doç. Dr. Irfan Turhan - Dr.Irfan Turhan received his Ph.D. degree in Food Engineering from Akdeniz University in 2009. He was a visiting scholar in Pennsyvania State University between 2007 and 2008. He worked as research assistant in Department of Food Engineering at Akdeniz University, Turkey, between 2005-2009. After graduated from the same university, he then worked at the same department as an Assistant Professor. He was later promoted to Associate Professor in 2012. His teaching and research focus on Bioprocess Engineering; To obtain an entry-level position in Food Engineering with a focus on fermentation of fruit and vegetables or its waste, fermentor design, enzyme technology, bioprocess separations: rational scaleup of analytical separation methods; conversion of batch processes to continuous processes; integrated fermentation/recovery systems; novel techniques. Primary areas of interest include fermentation of food.” He has authored or co-authored around 20 refereed journal articles, numerous conference papers, and one book chapter, translated one book, and made numerous presentations at regional, national and international conferences.
